Ingredients
For the Beef
1 lb (450 g) ground beef (80/20 recommended)
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp garlic powder
½ tsp onion powder
½ tsp cumin
1 tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
For the Tacos
8 small flour tortillas
2 cups (200 g) shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
1 cup shredded lettuce
1 medium tomato, diced
¼ cup red onion, finely diced
Pickles or jalapeños (optional)
For the Sauce
½ cup mayonnaise
2 tbsp sour cream
1 tbsp taco seasoning
1 tsp lime juice
Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef
    In a bowl, combine the ground beef with chili powder, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Mix until evenly seasoned.
  2. Make the Sauce
    In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sour cream, taco seasoning, and lime juice. Refrigerate until ready to use.
  3. Assemble the Smash Tacos
    Divide the beef mixture into 8 equal portions. Press each portion into a thin layer directly onto one side of a tortilla, covering most of the surface.
  4. Cook
    Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
    Place the tortillas beef-side down onto the hot skillet. Cook for 3–4 minutes until the beef develops a crispy crust.
    Flip the tortillas and immediately sprinkle cheese over the cooked beef. Cook for another 1–2 minutes until the tortilla is golden and crispy and the cheese is melted.
  5. Add Toppings
    Remove from the skillet and top with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles or jalapeños, and a drizzle of the taco sauce.
  6. Serve
    Fold in half and serve immediately while hot and crispy.
    Tips
    Use a cast-iron skillet for the best crust.
    Swap beef for ground chicken or turkey if preferred.
    Add avocado slices or guacamole for extra richness.
    Serve with fries, chips, or a fresh salad.
