For the French Fries
2 large potatoes, cut into fries (500 g)
1 tablespoon vegetable oil (15 ml)
1/2 teaspoon salt (3 g)
For the Garden Salad
2 cups lettuce, chopped
1 tomato, diced
1 cucumber, sliced
1/4 red onion, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon olive oil (15 ml)
1 tablespoon lemon juice (15 ml)
Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
Prepare the Fries
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
Toss the potato fries with vegetable oil and salt.
Spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet.
Bake for 30–35 minutes, turning halfway through, until golden and crispy.
Prepare the Fish
Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels.
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
In another bowl, beat the egg and cold water.
Gradually whisk the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until a smooth batter forms.
Heat about 2 inches (5 cm) of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
Dip each fish fillet into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off.
Fry the fillets for 4–5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
Prepare the Salad
Combine the lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and red onion in a large bowl.
Drizzle with olive oil and lemon juice.
Season with salt and black pepper, then toss gently.
Serve
Arrange the crispy fish fillets alongside the French fries and fresh garden salad. Serve immediately with lemon wedges, tartar sauce, or your favorite dipping sauce.
