4-Ingredient Butter Swim Biscuits

These incredibly soft, buttery biscuits bake right in melted butter, creating a golden, crispy crust and a fluffy interior. Perfect for breakfast, dinner, or a quick snack!

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups (315 g) all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 ¾ cups (420 ml) buttermilk
  • ½ cup (115 g) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. Pour the melted butter into an 8×8-inch (20×20 cm) baking dish, coating the bottom evenly.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  4. Add the buttermilk and stir until a thick dough forms. Do not overmix.
  5. Transfer the dough directly into the buttered baking dish and gently spread it to the edges.
  6. Using a knife, cut the dough into 9 equal squares before baking.
  7. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the top is deeply golden brown.
  8. Let cool for a few minutes, then separate the biscuits along the cut lines and serve warm.

Notes

  • For a true 4-ingredient version, use self-rising flour (which already contains baking powder and salt), plus buttermilk and butter.
  • Delicious served with honey, jam, or a pat of extra butter.
