These incredibly soft, buttery biscuits bake right in melted butter, creating a golden, crispy crust and a fluffy interior. Perfect for breakfast, dinner, or a quick snack!
Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups (315 g) all-purpose flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 ¾ cups (420 ml) buttermilk
- ½ cup (115 g) unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Pour the melted butter into an 8×8-inch (20×20 cm) baking dish, coating the bottom evenly.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
- Add the buttermilk and stir until a thick dough forms. Do not overmix.
- Transfer the dough directly into the buttered baking dish and gently spread it to the edges.
- Using a knife, cut the dough into 9 equal squares before baking.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the top is deeply golden brown.
- Let cool for a few minutes, then separate the biscuits along the cut lines and serve warm.
Notes
- For a true 4-ingredient version, use self-rising flour (which already contains baking powder and salt), plus buttermilk and butter.
- Delicious served with honey, jam, or a pat of extra butter.
